About Rusty:
I have more than 30 years of legal experience and expertise working for seniors and their families as an elder law attorney in greater Kansas City. Prior to law school, I was an accountant and my first couple years practicing law was as a tax attorney. My focus is helping protect seniors’ assets from taxes and long-term care costs, benefit qualification, and navigating more complex family scenarios in their estate planning.
I have personally experienced the loss and caring for a spouse suffering from cancer and the treatment and working with aging parents through all stages of their lives. I understand the challenges faced by individuals and their caretakers when capacity or health declines, how to prepare for it, and the legal matters while amid it. I may not be able to eliminate my client’s grief but strive to provide clients with peace of mind.
In 2010, my faith and love led me and part of my family to China as Christian missionaries. My wife and I ended up dedicating 3 years to that ministry before returning to Missouri to help with grandchildren after a family tragedy and later began anew with Paths Elder Law.
I have multiple degrees and advanced study spanning from a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration–Accounting at Rockhurst University, to a Master of Arts in Accounting and Intercultural Studies, as well as my Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Law.
When I am not practicing law, I enjoy spending time with my family, and grandchildren, and eating at local restaurants.
